how to survive from the cobble stone world ?
hello my dear judges and my friendly audience,
today my topic is how to survive from a cobble stone world? after i got the title “what we cannot afford to lose ?’ i have thought lots of answers.
for example, health ,wealth, friends, youth and so on. it’s hard to choose the right answer, but when i take every answer in my mind into consideration, i have found that personality became the answer that i prefer, so that why i chose the title ‘how to survive from the cobble stone world ? ’
after put forward the question ,what ***es into our mind? when we received the education from primary school, middle school, high school, even university, we gradually lose our personality, and we eventually be***e a cobble stone, without an edge and a corner. is that the result we want ?
obviously, no! and that’s why i want to stand on this stage, and share my view with everybody here. before i participated this english speech contest.
someone even discouraged that your major is japanese .the english speech contest is none of your business. but i responsed that it’s my interest, it’s my love.
thought i’m a japanese major ,i still can speak fluent english . besides, i want to be an outstanding man.
though we have our own majors, we still can stand out in other fiels. you are going to be doctors in the future, you also can be a good writer, you are going to be nurses in the future, you also can be an excellent interpreter, you are going to be druggists in the future, you also can be a great singer.
we should know that we are the only gemstone in this world, not just a ***mon cobble stone. once heard a saying, to be outstanding, just stand out. dose everybody here want to be outstanding?
yes or no? so next time, chase the chance, and show us your talent.
the value of life .life is formed by many stages of time. so we should make good use of time.
a proverb says, "time is money." but in my opinion, time is even more precious than money. why?
because when money is spent, we can earn it back. however, when time is gone, it will never return. this is the reason why we must value time.
it goes without saying that the time for our study and work is unusually limited. hence, even an hour is extremely precious. we should make full use of our time to do useful things.
as a student, i must make efforts to engage in my study so as to serve our nation and people in the future. but it is a pity that there. are a lot of people who do not know the importance of time.
they do not realize that wasting time is equal to wasting a part of their valuable life. in a word, we should form the good habit of saving time. do not put off what can be done today till tomorrow.
laziness will not only bring us failure but also lead us to the road of poverty. and this is the value of life.
it wasn't all romantic. i didn't have a dorm room, so i slept on the floor in friends' rooms, i returned coke bottles for the 5 deposits to buy food with, and i would walk the 7 miles across town every sunday night to get one good meal a week at the hare krishna temple. i loved it.
and much of what i stumbled into by following my curiosity and intuition turned out to be priceless later on. let me give you one example:
again, you can't connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. so you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. you have to trust in something - your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever.
this approach has never let me down, and it has made all the difference in my life.
my third story is about death.
when i was 17, i read a quote that went something like: "if you live each day as if it was your last, someday you'll most certainly be right." it made an impression on me, and since then, for the past 33 years, i have looked in the mirror every morning and asked myself:
"if today were the last day of my life, would i want to do what i am about to do today?" and whenever the answer has been "no" for too many days in a row, i know i need to change something.
remembering that i'll be dead soon is the most important tool i've ever encountered to help me make the big choices in life. because almost everything – all external expectations, all pride, all fear of embarras**ent or failure - these things just fall away in the face of death, leaving only what is truly important. remembering that you are going to die is the best way i know to avoid the trap of thinking you have something to lose.
you are already naked. there is no reason not to follow your heart.
about a year ago i was diagnosed with cancer. i had a scan at 7:30 in the morning, and it clearly showed a tumor on my pancreas.
i didn't even know what a pancreas was. the doctors told me this was almost certainly a type of cancer that is incurable, and that i should expect to live no longer than three to six months. my doctor advised me to go home and get my affairs in order, which is doctor's code for prepare to die.
it means to try to tell your kids everything you thought you'd have the next 10 years to tell them in just a few months. it means to make sure everything is buttoned up so that it will be as easy as possible for your family. it means to say your goodbyes.

today i would like to begin with a story. there was once a physical therapist who traveled all the way from america to africa to do a census about mountain gorillas. these gorillas are a main attraction to tourists from all over the world; this put them severely under threat of poaching and being put into the zoo.
she went there out of curiosity, but what she saw strengthened her determination to devote her whole life to fighting for those beautiful creatures. she witnessed a scene, a scene taking us to a place we never imaged we've ever been, where in the very depth of the african rainforest, surrounded by trees, flowers and butterflies, the mother gorillas cuddled their babies.
yes, that's a memorable scene in one of my favorite movies, called gorillas in the mist, based on a true story of mrs. diana fossey, who spent most of her lifetime in rwanda to protect the ecoenvironment there until the very end of her life.
to me, the movie not only presents an unf***ettable scene but also acts as a timeless reminder that we should not develop the tourist industry at the cost of our eco-environment.
today, we live in a world of prosperity but still threatened by so many new problems. on the one hand, touri**, as one of the most promising industries in the 21st century, provides people with the great opportunity to see everything there is to see and to go any place there is to go. it has be***e a lifestyle for some people, and has turned out to be the driving force in gdp growth.
it has the magic to turn a backward town into a wonderland of prosperity. but on the other hand, many problems can occur - natural scenes aren't natural anymore. deforestation to heat lodges are devastating nepal.
oil spills from tourist boats are polluting antarctica. tribal people are forsaking their native music and dress to listen to u2 on walkman and wear nike and reeboks.
all these appalling facts have brought us to the realization that we can no longer stand by and do nothing, because the very thought of it has been eroding our resources. encouragingly, the explosive growth of global travel has put touri** again in the spotlight, which is why the united nations has made 2002 the year of ecotouri**, for the first time to bring to the world's attention the benefits of touri**, but also its capacity to destroy our ecoenvironment.
now every year, many local ecoenvironmental protection ***anizations are receiving donations - big notes, **all notes or even coins - from housewives, plumbers, ambulance drivers, sale**en, teachers, children and invalids. some of them cannot afford to send the money but they do. these are the ones who drive the cabs, who nurse in hospitals, who are suffering from ecological damage in their neighborhood.
why? because they care. because they still want their mother nature back.
because they know it still belongs to them.
this kind of feeling that i have, ladies and gentlemen, is when it feels like it, **ells like it, and looks like it , it's all ***ing from a scene to be remembered, a scene to recall and to cherish.
the other night, as i saw the moon linger over the land and before it was sent into the invisible, my mind was filled with songs. i found myself humming softly, not to the music, but to something else, someplace else, a place remembered, a place untouched, a field of grass where no one seemed to have been except the deer. and all those unf***ettable scenes strengthened the feeling that it's time for us to do something, for our own and our ***ing generation.
once again, i have ***e to think of mrs. diana fossey because it is with her spirit, passion, courage and strong sense of our ecoenvironment that we are taking our next step into the world. and no matter who we are, what we do and where we go, in our minds, there's always a scene to remember, a scene worth our effort to protect it and fight for it.
thank you very much.

this is my niece, stella. she's just turned one and started to walk. and she's walking in that really cool way that one-year-olds do, a kind of teetering, my-body's-moving- too-fast-for-my-legs kind of way.it is absolutely gorgeous. and one of her favorite things to do at the moment is to stare at herself in the mirror. she absolutely loves her reflection. she giggles and squeals, and gives herself these big, wet kisses. it is beautiful. apparently, all of her friends do this and my mom tells me that i used to do this, and it got me thinking: when did i stop doing this? when is it suddenly not okay to love the way that we look? because apparently we don't.
ten thousand people every month google, 'am i ugly?' this is faye. faye is 13 and she lives in denver.and like any teenager, she just wants to be liked and to fit in. it's sunday night. she's getting ready for the week ahead at school. and she's slightly dreading it, and she's a bit confused because despite her mom telling her all the time that she's beautiful, every day at school, someone tells her that she's ugly.because of the difference between what her mom tells her and what her friends at school, or her peers at school are telling her, she doesn't know who to believe. so, she takes a video of herself. she posts it to youtube and she asks people to please leave a comment: 'am i pretty or am i ugly?' well, so far, faye has received over 13,000 comments. some of them are so nasty, they don't bear thinking about.this is an average, healthy-looking teenage girl receiving this feedback at one of the most emotionally vulnerable times in her life. thousands of people are posting videos like this, mostly teenage girls, reaching out in this way. but what's leading them to do this?
well, today's teenagers are rarely alone. they're under pressure to be online and available at all times, talking, messaging, liking, commenting, sharing, posting — it never ends. never before have we been so connected, so continuously, so instantaneously, so young. and as one mom told me, it's like there's a party in their bedroom every night. there's simply no privacy. and the social pressures that go along with that are relentless. this always-on environment is training our kids to value themselves based on the number of likes they get and the types of comments that they receive. there's no separation between online and offline life. what's real or what isn't is really hard to tell the difference between. and it's also really hard to tell the difference between what's authentic and what's digitally manipulated.what's a highlight in someone's life versus what's normal in the conte_t of everyday.
and where are they looking to for inspiration? well, you can see the kinds of images that are covering the newsfeeds of girls today. size zero models still dominate our catwalks. airbrushing is now routine.and trends like #thinspiration, #thighgap, #bikinibridge and #proana. for those who don't know, #proana means pro-anore_ia. these trends are teamed with the stereotyping and flagrant objectification of women in today's popular culture. it is not hard to see what girls are benchmarking themselves against. but boys are not immune to this either. aspiring to the chiseled jaw lines and ripped si_ packs of superhero-like sports stars and playboy music artists.
but, what's the problem with all of this? well, surely we want our kids to grow up as healthy, well balanced individuals. but in an image-obsessed culture, we are training our kids to spend more time and mental effort on their appearance at the e_pense of all of the other aspects of their identities. so, things like their relationships, the development of their physical abilities, and their studies and so on begin to suffer. si_ out of 10 girls are now choosing not to do something because they don't think they look good enough. these are not trivial activities. these are fundamental activities to their development as humans and as contributors to society and to the workforce. thirty-one percent, nearly one in three teenagers, are withdrawing from classroom debate. they're failing to engage in classroom debate because they don't want to draw attention to the way that they look. one in five are not showing up to class at all on days when they don't feel good about it. and when it comes to e_ams, if you don't think you look good enough, specifically if you don't think you are thin enough, you will score a lower grade point average than your peers who are not concerned with this. and this is consistent across finland, the u.s. and china, and is true regardless of how much you actually weigh. so to be super clear, we're talking about the way you think you look, not how you actually look. low body confidence is undermining academic achievement.
but it's also damaging health. teenagers with low body confidence do less physical activity, eat less fruits and vegetables, partake in more unhealthy weight control practices that can lead to eating disorders. they have lower self-esteem. they're more easily influenced by people around them and they're at greater risk of depression. and we think it's for all of these reasons that they take more riskswith things like alcohol and drug use; crash dieting; cosmetic surgery; unprotected, earlier se_; and self-harm. the pursuit of the perfect body is putting pressure on our healthcare systems and costing our governments billions of dollars every year.
and we don't grow out of it. women who think they're overweight — again, regardless of whether they are or are not — have higher rates of absenteeism. seventeen percent of women would not show up to a job interview on a day when they weren't feeling confident about the way that they look.
have a think about what this is doing to our economy. if we could overcome this, what that opportunity looks like. unlocking this potential is in the interest of every single one of us.
but how do we do that? well, talking, on its own, only gets you so far. it's not enough by itself. if you actually want to make a difference, you have to do something. and we've learned there are three key ways: the first is we have to educate for body confidence. we have to help our teenagers developstrategies to overcome image-related pressures and build their self-esteem. now, the good news is that there are many programs out there available to do this. the bad news is that most of them don't work. i was shocked to learn that many well-meaning programs are inadvertently actually making the situation worse. so we need to make damn sure that the programs that our kids are receiving are not only having a positive impact, but having a lasting impact as well.
and the research shows that the best programs address si_ key areas: the first is the influence of family, friends and relationships. the second is media and celebrity culture, then how to handle teasing and bullying, the way we compete and compare with one another based on looks, talking about appearance — some people call this 'body talk' or 'fat talk' — and finally, the foundations of respecting and looking after yourself. these si_ things are crucial starting points for anyone serious about delivering body-confidence education that works. an education is critical, but tackling this problem is going to require each and everyone of us to step up and be better role models for the women and girls in our own lives. challenging the status quo of how women are seen and talked about in our own circles.
it is not okay that we judge the contribution of our politicians by their haircuts or the size of their breasts, or to infer that the determination or the success of an olympian is down to her not being a looker. we need to start judging people by what they do, not what they look like.
we can all start by taking responsibility for the types of pictures and comments that we post on our own social networks. we can compliment people based on their effort and their actions and not on their appearance.
and let me ask you, when was the last time that you kissed a mirror? ultimately, we need to work together as communities, as governments and as businesses to really change this culture of ours so that our kids grow up valuing their whole selves, valuing individuality, diversity, inclusion. we need to put the people that are making a real difference on our pedestals, making a difference in the real world.giving them the airtime, because only then will we create a different world. a world where our kids are free to become the best versions of themselves, where the way they think they look never holds them back from being who they are or achieving what they want in life.
think about what this might mean for someone in your life. who have you got in mind? is it your wife?your sister? your daughter? your niece? your friend? it could just be the woman a couple of seats away from you today. what would it mean for her if she were freed from that voice of her inner critic, nagging her to have longer legs, thinner thighs, smaller stomach, shorter feet? what could it mean for her if we overcame this and unlocked her potential in that way?
right now, our culture's obsession with image is holding us all back. but let's show our kids the truth.let's show them that the way you look is just one part of your identity and that the truth is we love themfor who they are and what they do and how they make us feel. let's build self-esteem into our school curriculums. let's each and every one of us change the way we talk and compare ourselves to other people. and let's work together as communities, from grassroots to governments, so that the happy little one-year-olds of today become the confident changemakers of tomorrow. let's do this. (applause)

youth
ladies and gentlemen , good afternoon! i’m very glad to stand here and give you a short speech. today my topic is “youth”.
i hope you will like it , and found the importance in your youth so that more cherish it.
first i want to ask you some questions:
1、 do you know what is youth?
2、 how do you master your youth?
youth
youth is not a time of life, it is a state of mind ; it is not rosy cheeks , red lips and supple knees, it is a matter of the emotions : it is the freshness ; it is the freshness of the deep springs of life .
youth means a temperamental predominance of courage over timidity of the appetite , for adventure over the love of ease. this often exists in a man of 60 more than a boy of 20 . nobody grows old merely by a number of years .
we grow old by deserting our ideals.
years wrinkle the skin , but to give up enthusia** wrinkles the soul . worry , fear , self –distrust bows the heart and turns the spirit back to dust .
whether 60 of 16 , there is in every human being ‘s heart the lure of wonders, the unfailing childlike appetite of what’s next and the joy of the game of living . in the center of your heart and my heart there’s a wireless station : so long as it receives messages of beauty , hope ,cheer, courage and power from men and from the infinite, so long as you are young .
when the aerials are down , and your spirit is covered with snows of cynici** and the ice of pessimi**, then you are grown old ,even at 20 , but as long as your aerials are up ,to catch waves of optimi** , there is hope you may die young at 80.
thank you!
谢谢!the greatest invention
good evening everyone)(thank you for you patience)
the greatest invention in my eyes is the telephone, which is essential today in every house. and i believe that each person here own a lovely cell phone, including myself. what dose this phenomena mean?
needless to say, with only over 100-year’s development, telephone has already assumed a role as a family member. (“ played an important part in our daily life ”. ) amazing invention, isn’t it?
and now, let us have a view at the evolution: thousands of years ago, it was not possible or at least very hard for people far away from home having contact with their hometown, which means they could do nothing but to lose contact with their family; then, hundreds of years ago, people away from home could keep in touch with their family only by letters, which they needed to wait for weeks, months for a response; and now, attention, within seconds you can have a pleasant talk with a somebody thousands and thousands away! wonder, isn’t it?
now, please draw a picture in your mind: you only need to pick up your cell phone, to press the amazing numbers, to wait for several seconds and after she/he get the telephone, to make your voice fly through the air-sea in the form of radio, then a contact is being made as i am ****** the speech for you.
while, what i appreciate most is not the convenience the telephone offered, but the bridges it made which create contacts between you and your beloved parents, and your hometown thousands away. these bridges work as follows: when you are unhappy, bridge will be made to easy your broken heart by your lovely parents; when you are success, it will be made to share your enjoyment with your friends; when you are helpless, phone call will be made to strengthen your determination, also to give you encouragements.
through those bridges, can’t you find something?
probably, after the speech, i may phone my parents. thank you very much!

personally, rubbish has been a big headache in beijing. as
the year 2008 is ***ing ,every citizen has realized green beijing and green olympics will bring the far-reaching impact on beijing and even all china . the scense of rubbish nearly everywhere has given all of us a really bad impression, and i'm sure none of us wish to show off the bad side of beijing to athletes and journalists all over the world, for it would blemish the city's and even china's image and leave a bad reputation. so we really have to work hard on green olympics.
now, we are middle school students. we must improve the sense of protecting the environment and make a contribution to green olympics .
in our life, a lot of rubbish , such as waste *****, plastic bottles ,batteries and so on , is produced every day . after we learnt the passage make our environment more beautiful , we found a lot of rubbish thrown into dustbins could be recycled in fact during our discussion. so we thought it would be better if we could classify rubbish .
we told our idea to our teacher and he supported us very much . we became volunteers to classify rubbish . firstly we got three big boxes and put them in a corner of our classroom .
one is for waste ***** , one for plastics and coke cans and the other is for batteries . with teacher's help ,soon all the students took part in the activity of classifying rubbish .in a month , we collected three boxes of ***** , a box of batteries and a box of plastics and coke cans .
we sold them for 28 yuan and bought some young trees with the money . we planted the trees around our school . we were all spoken highly of by our school principals.
now we keep on the job and are all proud of improving environment .
the world trusts beijing .beijing still has a lot to do to reach the level the world expects, but we have the confidence to make beijing a green city. great changes are taking place, and not far in the future, beijing will be the focus of all worlds' attention.
we'll grasp the opportunity and do our best to make the sky blue

We engineering students take it for granted that technology is changing incredibly fast。 We are thinking nervously and seriously whether our colleges are failing to provide a foundation in the skills currently needed in industry。 Take my major telecommunications for example。 Scientists say that 21st century is a biomedical time, not an electrical time。 But without the help of electronic data processing and transformation, biomedical technology alone cannot go too far。 Funny enough, the word biomedical itself is just a combination of two disciplines。 So the interdisciplinary exploitation serves as the critical part for our electric and electronics world as well as any other fields to find new way of being。
But the power of knowledge collaboration is certainly not restricted to science and engineering; it is in the full community of learning。 Walking around campus I absorbed a reality that there is a seamless web between students from different professional backgrounds。 The engineering students are discussing animatedly in a philosophy lecture, speaking passionately in the public speaking club, and looking for sparkling ideas from learning history and arts。 How wonderful that is! That, ladies and gentleman, is just a significant step forward to be well—rounded because once we jump out of the circle we can see the bigger picture。
My friends, I hope that you have already got what university is all about。 Please let me end my speech with the Nobel Prize winner Li Zhengdao’s words: “The realization of the perfect combination of science and engineering, science and arts, technology and humanity, is the greatest symbol of a university’s success。” Thank you。

Good morning/afternoon/evening, ladies and gentlemen,
Today, I would like to talk about the importance of making a great English speech and how we can prepare ourselves to deliver an impactful presentation. Speaking in public, especially in a language that is not our native tongue, can often be a nerve-wracking experience. However, with proper preparation and practice, we can overcome our fears and present ourselves confidently.
To begin with, it is crucial to choose a topic that we are passionate about and familiar with. When we speak about something that interests us, our enthusiasm will naturally shine through, capturing the audience's attention. Additionally, having prior knowledge about the subject will enable us to deliver a well-researched and informative speech.
Once we have selected a topic, it is essential to conduct thorough research. We should gather information from reliable sources such as books, articles, and reputable websites. This will not only help us to gain more knowledge on the topic but also provide valuable material to include in our speech. It is crucial to remember that a well-researched presentation builds credibility and helps us connect with the audience effectively.
After gathering the necessary information, the next step is to organize our speech. A well-structured presentation should have an introduction, body, and conclusion. The introduction should grab the audience's attention and provide a brief overview of what will be discussed. The body of the speech should present our main points and supporting evidence in a logical manner. Lastly, the conclusion should summarize the key takeaways and leave a lasting impression on the listeners.
To make a lasting impact on the audience, it is crucial to use effective language and communication techniques. We should avoid using complex vocabulary or jargon that may confuse the listeners. Instead, simple and concise language should be used to convey our message clearly. Additionally, using rhetorical devices such as metaphors, anecdotes, or humor can make our speech more engaging and memorable.
Apart from the content and language, our body language and delivery style play a significant role in delivering a remarkable speech. We should ensure good eye contact with the audience, use appropriate facial expressions and gestures, and maintain an upright posture. It is also essential to project our voice clearly and vary our tone to keep the audience engaged throughout the presentation.
Practice is the key to delivering a successful speech. We should rehearse our speech multiple times to familiarize ourselves with the content, timing, and transitions. This will help us to overcome any nervousness and make us more comfortable with the material. Seeking feedback from friends, peers, or mentors is also beneficial as they can provide valuable insights and suggestions for improvement.
In conclusion, delivering a great English speech requires careful preparation, practice, and effective delivery techniques. By choosing a topic that interests us, conducting thorough research, organizing our speech, using appropriate language, and practicing our delivery, we can confidently present ourselves in front of an audience. Remember, practice makes perfect, and the more we put ourselves out there, the better we will become at delivering impressive speeches. So, let us embrace this opportunity to enhance our public speaking skills and make a lasting impact with our words.
Thank you for your attention.

change the ingredients of your life
this is a glass of water, tasteless, right? however if you add sugar, it will taste sweet, but if you add vinegar, it will be***e bitter. the same is true with our life the flavor is created by our choices.
so my dear friends, never ***plain that life is boring and the world is disappointing. if don’t like the taste of your life, change the ingredients
as you slowly open your eyes, look around, notice where the light ***es into your room; listen carefully, see if there are new sounds you can recognize; feel with your body and spirit, and see if you can sense the freshness in the air.
yes, it’s a new day, it’s a different day, and it’s a bright day! and most importantly, it is a new beginning for your life, a beginning where you are going to make new desicisions, take new actions, make new friends, and take your life to a totally unprecedented level!
if kindness is added to a strange you will have a friend; but if hostility is added, you will have an enemy. if love is added to a pile of red bricks you will have a home, but if hatred is add to those bricks , you will have an concentration camp.
so my dear friend, if faith, hope, love, endurance are added to your life, you will find the confidence for your life.

In every school a “top” crowd sets the pace, while the others follow their lead.Let’s say the top crowd decides that it is smart to wear bright red sweaters. Pretty soon everybody is wearing a bright red sweater. There is nothing wrong with that, except the fact that on some people a bright red sweater is extremely unbecoming. The situation can even become dangerous, if the top crowd decides that it is smart to drink or to drive cars at seventy miles an hour. Then the people who follow the lead are endangering their lives. They are like the sheep being led to the butcher.
Now, chances are that you have come across situations like these more than once in your life; chances are that one time or another you probably did something you knew to be wrong. You may have excused yourself by saying, “Gee, the crowd does it.” Well, let the crowd do it, but don’t do it yourself. Learn to say, “No.”
Develop your own standards and your own judgment. If you know the crowd is planning something you disagree with, have the courage to bow out politely. You’ll have the satisfaction of standing on your own two feet. Remember this in your heart, you are the unique one in the world, just be yourself.
